Duo Mitjana was born in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) through the colaboration of the two spanish clarinetists Dolores Navas Valverde and Marta Fitzsimmons Carnero, taking the name of the spanish musicologist Rafael Mitjana y Gordón (Málaga 1869- Stockholm 1921)
This duo intends to bring a breath of fresh air on the classic respertoire written for clarinete, as well as they try to promote the creation of contemporary works for this kind of formation.
Duo Mitjana has gotten already a Honor Mention in the competition “MálagaCrea” (Málaga, Spain)
In addition the offer concerts around Rotterdam and Spain (Málaga or Nerja)
Dolores and Marta, from Nerja and Málaga respectively, met while they were sudying their bachelor of clarinte at Málaga´s Superior Conservatory of Music, but they did not decide to create this duo until the happened to meet at Codarts (Rotterdam’s Conservatory of Music) to study their master of interpretation. Their repertoire includes works by Mendelssohn, Krommer, Stadler, Poulenc, Hersant, Albéniz, Piazzola or even their own arrangements, and they are opened to perform new creations, both for two solo clarinets, piano, electronic or any other combination.
They have received lessons from Nancy Braithwaite (clarinet teacher at Codarts)
Julien Hervé (solo clarinet at the Rotterdam Philarmonic Orchestra) and Juan Manuel Ortigosa (clarinet teacher at Málaga’s Superior Conservatory of Music).
